LM magazine has demanded that the ITN news team is stripped of
its BAFTA and its Royal Television Society Award, both awarded
in 1993 for its world famous report from Bosnia, first broadcast
on 6 August 1992. LM makes the same request of Broadcast magazine
and two international award bodies.

A recent investigation by German journalist Thomas Deichmann,
published in the February 1997 issue of LM magazine, raises vital
questions about the way in which the ITN team's images of Trnopolje
camp were produced and interpreted. The unedited rushes shot by
the ITN team on 5 August 1992 reveal that the famous pictures
of Bosnian Muslims apparently caged behind a barbed wire fence
are not all that they seem. The whole truth behind these dramatic,
multiple award-winning images has never been told by the journalists
involved, or by ITN.
The revelations published in LM magazine highlight important issues
concerning journalistic standards and the responsibilities of
war reporters. In the light of Thomas Deichmann's investigation,
the bodies concerned should reconsider the awarding of their coveted
prizes to the ITN reports. |
